Why Repointing Matters

The mortar holding your ridge caps on doesn't last forever. Sun, storms and movement break it down, and once it starts cracking, water gets underneath the caps and into your roof space. Left alone it turns into stained ceilings, damp insulation and timber rot — a far more expensive problem than the repoint would have been.

We use a flexible pointing compound rather than old-style rigid cement. It moves with the roof instead of cracking the first time the timbers shift, so the job lasts.

Repointing, rebedding, or both? Repointing replaces the mortar along the surface of the ridge caps. Rebedding lifts the caps off and re-beds them on fresh mortar underneath, then repoints over the top. We'll tell you honestly which one your roof actually needs — plenty of roofs only need the repoint, and we're not going to sell you a rebed you don't need.
